Why did you decide to join GIC?
GIC’s biggest advantage is its market positioning and its connectivity to every part of the market. Banks, investment managers, issuers, and even governments are happy to partner and grow alongside us. With global reach and unique market positioning as a long-term investor, GIC presented an unparalleled opportunity for me to grow and push myself professionally.
What does your typical workday look like?
There is no typical day for investment professionals as the markets are always moving, with new opportunities arising each day. Learning new perspectives and skills while working on these opportunities is something I enjoy immensely. Over time, you develop robust expertise, which puts you in the same league as the world’s best—and that, in and of itself, is very satisfying.
What do you like most about working here?
Over my 15-year (and counting) career at GIC, the company has evolved significantly for the better. GIC embraces diversity in the workplace and believes that an inclusive environment leads to greater value and contribution. When I first joined GIC, it was more like an assemblage of great individual performers. Today, we have a collective vision that leverages everyone’s skillsets and nurtures mutual support, enabling us to become even more powerful as an organisation.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are ingrained in the GIC identity. I feel that very much as an American with Northern European heritage working for a sovereign wealth fund in Singapore. Indeed, my team is highly diverse, with team members from various backgrounds and cultures.
How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?
GIC has a culture of continuous and self-driven learning and development. You are always encouraged to ask questions and learn more. It may even involve relearning some areas you previously thought you knew. People at GIC are open and always willing to share their wealth of knowledge and expertise with you.
