Ethan joined GIC through the GIC Professionals Programme (GPP) and is part of the CIO Office Risk Team, FIMA’s in-business risk function. In his role, he works closely with the Head of Risk and partners with the corporate credit and alternative credit teams to provide independent risk oversight and support portfolio management decisions.
Outside of work, Ethan enjoys bouldering and exploring new restaurants.
What inspired you to join GIC?
My first encounter with GIC was during junior college, when my school visited the office for an open house. I was impressed by both the environment and the people I met. Later, while exploring internship opportunities at university, I reconnected with GIC through representatives from FIMA. Those conversations deepened my interest in the asset class and left a lasting impression.
Before joining, I viewed GIC as a large and complex organisation with a long history and many talented individuals—which was both exciting and a little intimidating. However, with the guidance of supportive mentors, I’ve come to appreciate the firm even more. The collaborative culture and commitment to excellence are key.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
I usually start my day by reviewing market news, monitoring portfolio performance, and following up with teams if any issues arise. The rest of the day often involves meetings with various product teams, my colleagues across Risk, and departmental level discussions. A key part of my role is providing independent perspectives and insights to my various stakeholders.
What aspects of your work do you enjoy the most?
The people, the autonomy, and the trust. Being given meaningful responsibility and the space to exercise my own judgment has made the work both fulfilling and intellectually stimulating.
How would you describe your learning and development at GIC?
My experience in the GPP has been immensely rewarding. I’ve grown significantly—both personally and professionally—thanks to the breadth of exposure, strong mentorship, and a supportive team environment. The learning curve is steep, and the pace of development is remarkable—you gain in a year what might otherwise take several years to learn elsewhere.
What skills or knowledge have you developed while working at GIC?
I’ve developed a broad range of skills, across interpersonal, technical, research, workflow coordination, presentation, and working with AI tools. The combination of technical and soft-skill development has been equally valuable in shaping my professional growth.
