Why did you decide to join GIC?

I decided to join GIC because of its reputation as a leading sovereign wealth fund with a long-term investment horizon and a strong commitment to delivering sustainable returns. Additionally, GIC was one of my biggest clients when I was at my former job doing equity research job at a bank. I was impressed by the smart yet modest people I met at that time and since then, I have always wanted to join the organisation. When an opportunity for the Real Estate Department came up, I was elated as this is an area where I had developed a keen interest.

What does your typical workday look like?

I usually start my day by treating myself to a cup of coffee and an onigiri from convenience stores while looking through my emails. I would prepare a list of tasks that I aim to complete by the end of the day, and it usually includes meetings with partners, writing internal documents and other ad hoc projects. My typical workday would usually involve regular meetings with partners on asset status, so I would try to finish the tasks between the meetings and after 5pm. The work is challenging and fast-paced, but also rewarding as I am constantly learning and growing in my role.

What do you like most about working here?

What I like most about working at GIC is the people and the culture. Everyone I have worked with has been incredibly talented, knowledgeable, and supportive. There is a sense of teamwork and collaboration that is fostered throughout the organisation. Additionally, GIC places a strong emphasis on personal and professional development and provides opportunities for me to learn and grow within the company.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

The learning and development culture at GIC is strong and supportive. There are many opportunities for training and development, including formal training programs, on-the-job learning, and mentorship from senior colleagues. As an analyst, I am grateful that I am given the chance to meet the senior leaders from our counterparties, and this encourages me to always think thoroughly and present myself professionally.  GIC also emphasizes continuous learning and encourages employees to take ownership of our own development.

What you should know before joining GIC

Before joining GIC, it is important to understand that the work is challenging and fast-paced, and requires intellectual curiosity, analytical ability, and attention to detail. Additionally, GIC places a strong emphasis on long-term thinking and sustainable investing, and employees are expected to be committed to these principles. However, for those who are passionate about investing and looking for a dynamic and intellectually stimulating work environment, GIC is a wonderful place to build a rewarding career.
