Helen

Helen is an Assistant Vice President at GIC’s RE where she screens and evaluates deals by performing market research, financial analysis and cash-flow modeling, investment feasibility and making recommendations to senior members of the team. She plays various roles throughout the entire deal-life-cycle, from preparing internal approval papers, to conducting due diligence, negotiations, structuring, documentation and closing. She also actively monitors the ongoing performance of the assets through regular reviews, anticipating issues and recommending solutions ahead of time.

Mental wellbeing and fitness are key issues that Helen focuses on, and she plans to spend more time to provide mentorship to kids in school and provide career advice, including sharing important lessons she’s learnt as a junior investor.

Why did you decide to join GIC?

I believe that an ideal employer should offer a supportive environment for development. One that encourages openness, growth and freedom to push boundaries with high-performing peers and leaders.

I chose to join GIC for two reasons. The role offered to me provided a pan-Asia, across capital stack investment, where I could see myself grow long-term. The other reason would be the exceptional people in GIC.

What does your typical workday look like?

I typically go to the gym before work, and then after my daily morning coffee, I start clearing my emails and attend meetings. We usually have team lunches on the days we are in the office, and the rest of the afternoons and sometimes evenings, would be filled with meetings.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

mentor and seniors, including weekly check-ins, advice on how to best analyse and present data, and key things to look out for during investment and negotiation processes. I am hoping that my career with GIC will be a long-term commitment, and I’m eager to continue learning from the team’s leaders every day.

What you should know before joining GIC

Be bold, and don’t be afraid of a challenge. Your first few months here will be a steep learning curve but joining GIC has been one of the best career decisions I’ve made, and I hope it will be for you as well.
