Why did you decide to join GIC?
Prior to joining GIC, my perception of GIC being the pioneer organisation renowned especially for its global reach of Private Markets investments. In fact, GIC’s influence and expertise of its public market investments is just as profound as its Private Equity and Real Estate.
In addition, the capacity to work in a culturally diverse workplace blending global influences has spark interest in me to join the organisation.
What does your typical workday look like?
I usually start my day on my commute to work by looking at chats and emails if it requires my immediate action. Given that most of my team sits in the Singapore office and with the time zone differences, I am often faced with emails and chats overnight. Then I proceed with daily tasks like FX funding and swap rolls. Throughout the process, I talk to banks who are our broker dealers to get market color and research views, share views with internal teams and make portfolio adjustments if needed.
In the afternoon, I would work on projects and attend meetings. On some evenings, I would participate in teams’ weekly calls to catch up with the team in Singapore office.
What do you like most about working here?
I like that the firm cares about individuals’ long-term growth. We are given training allowance annually to sign up for courses/workshops to gain additional relevant skillset or to enhance our long-term capabilities.
How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?
There are Foundation Programmes when you get invited to as a new hire where you learn about the organization and to meet with some of the senior leaders. These programmes are also provided to staff who has received a promotion. I can also use the training allowance to take other courses for self-improvement.
What you should know before joining GIC
Be ready to make sustainable impacts at all levels, even though you might still be junior. Challenge the status quo and look for opportunities to enhance GIC’s long term investment capability.
