Managing Director

Private Equity

Eduardo

Eduardo is a Managing Director at the Direct Investment Group in the Private Equity department based in the São Paulo office. Covering the Latin America market, his role is to source private equity deals directly to gain preferred access to good investments.

Outside of work, he has been focusing on spending quality time with his family and taking care of his health and well-being. He tries to maintain a healthy lifestyle by working out in the gym every morning, and on the weekends, he enjoys getting close to nature and has been learning to surf.

Why did you decide to join GIC?

GIC has a strong and well-respected record of accomplishment in Latin America and is recognised as one of the top investment firms in the region across multiple asset classes. Globally, GIC is a leading long-term investor with investments in over 40 countries—the opportunity to be a part of such an organisation was too good to pass up.

When I had the chance to connect with various employees from GIC, I felt this was the right place to be as an investment professional. It was a dynamic workplace with a culture of continuous learning. With the ability to create positive impact at scale, I would be able to achieve an immense sense of fulfilment.

What does your typical workday look like?

There is no true “typical” day for me as every day brings forth new opportunities and challenges.

Independently of where I am, my day usually starts with responding to emails and catching up with news on our portfolio companies. This is done early in the morning to ensure that key decisions are made as early as possible in the day.

When I am in the office, we have a series of team meetings and host external guests from the business community. I often have to travel to other cities within Brazil to meet up with companies that are potential investment opportunities or provide support to our existing portfolio companies

What do you like most about working here?

What I like most about working at GIC is being able to contribute to the high-impact and interesting projects here. We recently closed the acquisition of a significant minority stake in a leading food ingredients company in Brazil, an asset that both GIC and many other private investors have been pursuing for some time.

This project required analysing a business that many did not have prior experience in, as assets of scale in this sector are rare and shareholders tend to hold on to them for decades. It also involved different negotiation dynamics as the two decision makers had contrasting interests—one wanted to sell all the shares and maximise the price, while the other preferred selecting the best partner for their business going forward. Our team had to navigate through this situation and applied different negotiation techniques, depending on which shareholder we were interacting with.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

As an established organisation with a wealth of knowledge, GIC offers a series of unique and insightful learning and development opportunities across our global offices. Employees are encouraged to push boundaries and actively seek out these opportunities.

Personally, I frequently interact with other teams under the Private Equity department, such as the Technology Investment Group, Funds & Co-Investments Group, Special Opportunities Group, and Integrated Strategies Group, as well as with colleagues from other global offices. Such interactions allow me to broaden my scope as an investment professional and adopt a more global perspective of the investment environment we are in.

What you should know before joining GIC

During the interview process, you should learn as much as possible about the company and the role. Employees at GIC are open, transparent, and always willing to share their experiences.

With the business environment constantly changing at an increasingly faster speed, always be ready and open to take on new challenges along the way, as GIC will require you to do so.

GIC is a great place to be if you enjoy a collaborative workplace. Enjoy the process and you will get the most out of it.
