Katy is a Senior Vice President of the Corporate Affairs & Communications department, covering the Americas region. She works with every single department within her region—from investors to corporate services—amplifying their voices and promoting their work both internally and externally through the press, social media, marketing, events, thought leadership, and more, to grow and protect GIC’s global reputation.
Outside of her work responsibilities, Katy volunteers her time to connect and contribute to her local community by participating in park cleanups and tree-planting activities in the urban forests of New York City where she is based.
Why did you decide to join GIC?
I chose to join GIC because I saw an opportunity to add meaningful value and set GIC up for long-term success as it expands its brand recognition and communications strategy around the world. Before joining GIC, I had never heard of the company, but I was excited about the opportunity to work across the region and be part of a global organisation with a strong mission.
What does your typical workday look like?
As I cover the Americas region, I always stay busy! I normally start my day with a big coffee before jumping into calls with my colleagues throughout the day. On days I work from home, I love being able to take advantage of the extra flexibility and get in afternoon walks with my dog, Max.
What do you like most about working here?
I really love the people at GIC. I have met some truly incredible, kind, smart, and amusing people during my time here. With so much going on within the Americas region I cover, from deal communications to showcasing our employees, I truly feel like I am contributing in a meaningful way and making a difference.
GIC is an agile organisation that adapts to meet the needs of the moment. As a team, we think on our feet, get creative, and work efficiently to achieve successful outcomes.
How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?
GIC has created a strong supportive environment for learning and development. The company supported my interest in attending a week-long digital marketing course, which gave me a ton of fresh insights that I brought back to my day-to-day work. I have also been able to take advantage of GIC’s career coaching platform and have an incredible manager who has been a strong mentor to me throughout my time here.
Despite working far from the Singapore headquarters, having a manager who is also a strong mentor has made the distance feel like no issue at all. She has incredible institutional and industry knowledge that she freely shares. She has been instrumental to my success at GIC.
What you should know before joining GIC
