Assistant Vice President

Risk & Performance Management Department

Victor

Victor is an Assistant Vice President in the Risk & Performance Management Department. As part of the Investment Risk & Performance team in the Singapore office, he provides independent risk oversight of GIC’s active strategies, specifically the public equities strategies.

Outside of work, you will find him staying active with regular runs and scuba diving adventures. When he is looking for a more low-key activity, he loves to spend time with friends playing board games.

Why did you decide to join GIC?

My roots run deep in the beautiful country of France, where I grew up. After completing my university education, I had the opportunity to move to Singapore and work at one of the top academic institutions in the field of fundamental and applied research for the investment industry.

In my career, I have made it a priority to continuously develop my skills, create positive change, and build meaningful relationships. When the opportunity arose to become an Investment Risk Manager at GIC, I found myself facing a tough decision. But after learning about the company’s mission to be a leading global long-term investor and collaborative culture, I was convinced that GIC would be a great place to learn and grow and make a meaningful impact.

What does your typical workday look like?

My day kicks off with a steaming cup of tea or coffee, and a quick scan of the latest market movements and headlines. From there, it is off to the races. I might spend my time analysing risk in active strategies, collaborating with strategy teams to understand key risk and performance drivers of new strategies, researching, and evaluating potential market stressors, or even working to enhance our suite of analytics and dashboards. After a productive day, I like to unwind with a good workout at the gym or a refreshing run.

What do you like most about working here?

One of the things I love most about my job is that it constantly challenges me to level up my technical skills, and I am lucky to have managers who encourage and support my growth. There is nothing quite like the feeling of expanding my knowledge and diving deep into the risk and reward dynamics of active strategies, especially when I get to collaborate with such a talented and knowledgeable team of colleagues at GIC. Given the large breadth of strategies in GIC, there is never a shortage of new things to learn and explore—and that is what makes our work so exciting.

I am currently working on an exciting project to build a risk dashboard that taps into our corporate data systems to deliver more accurate and comprehensive risk analytics to our strategy teams. By giving them access to these powerful insights, we are helping them make better-informed investment decisions and promoting a culture of risk awareness throughout the organisation. It is a big undertaking, but it is truly rewarding to know that our work is helping drive the success of the entire organisation.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

Coming from an academic research background and transitioning to a role as a risk manager was no easy feat. But thanks to the support of my teammates, manager, and colleagues across departments, who were always willing to be available to lend a helping hand and offer valuable insights, I was able to make the leap with confidence. I am grateful for the culture of mentorship and the camaraderie that exists within this organisation. It has made all the difference in my career growth and development.
