Why did you decide to join GIC?
I was looking for a good opportunity to work on projects with exposure to new technologies, in addition to operational support, and I had been searching for a while when I came across the opening at GIC. Initially, I was slightly skeptical about the work culture after scanning through reviews by previous employees on job portals. But rather than only relying on reviews, I decided to make my decision based on how the first round of interviews would go. Ultimately, I got through all the rounds and the people I met were friendly and understanding, encouraging me to accept the position
What does your typical workday look like?
Most of my responsibilities include database creation, migration, and upgrading to the latest versions as well as annual account reviews for auditing. I also spend the day maintaining the database, end-to-end in compliance with GIC standards, and working with the apps team to bring new applications to life.
What do you like most about working here?
With critical alerts and issues, the DBA job is full of pleasant surprises. In my opinion, the best part about working in GIC is the process by which work is completed systematically and without compromise.
Despite the pandemic, I am grateful to the technology that allowed most jobs to be completed successfully. In fact, working from home has reduced travel, allowing me more time to focus on my work. I am also relieved to be able to eat with my family, supervise my children’s homework, and assist them with their studies while I am working.
How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?
I was involved in the onboarding a new technology. I had prior experience working on Postgres on IAAS, but working on PAAS is a new experience for me, and I have learned a lot along the way.
