Eileen

Vice President

Technology Group

Eileen

Eileen is a Vice President in the Technology Group. In her role as a technology business partner for the Tax business team, she identifies and evaluates new and existing technologies to take GIC’s tax strategy and operations to the next level. Her goal is to bring in technology solutions that are fit-for-purpose, meet the unique requirements of the business, and ensure cost-effectiveness.

Outside of work, she takes pleasure in keeping her three kids engaged in various new activities. She regularly encourages them to participate in community service projects, such as contributing to food donation drives, to give back to those in need. Her family also took part in a community event to show their gratitude to migrant workers in their estate by creating handmade cards and providing them with grocery vouchers.

Why did you decide to join GIC?

GIC’s purpose of generating good returns for both present and future generations of Singaporeans, while also having a positive impact on local communities worldwide, resonated with me. I was also keen on being part of the technological advancements in the financial sector. It was an exciting opportunity for me to pursue my personal interests while making an impact.

Although there may be a perception among some that GIC is a conservative organisation, I can confidently say that this is far from the truth. We are constantly seeking out new and innovative solutions in the technology space to push ourselves to perform even better.

What does your typical workday look like?

My day starts with checking emails and my calendar to prepare for upcoming meetings. I find it useful to plan out my tasks for the day, as it helps me prioritise and stay focused on what needs to be accomplished. A significant amount of my time is spent liaising with stakeholders to understand their needs and work towards achieving our goals.

At lunchtime, I like to take a break and recharge. Sometimes, I prefer to go on a solo lunch to reflect and gather my thoughts. However, I also enjoy catching up with my colleagues over lunch to hear about their recent projects and life moments.

I’m grateful for the work flexibility that allows me to head back home after work to prepare dinner for my family. Dinner time is special to me because it is a time for us to bond and share about our day. It is a moment in the day that I truly cherish!

What do you like most about working here?

What makes GIC such an amazing place to work is the incredible people! As a technology business partner, I collaborate with business stakeholders to pick up domain skills and bring in fit-for-purpose solutions. It is inspiring to work alongside knowledgeable individuals who are open to learning about technology to make informed decisions and move forward.

One of the most fascinating projects I have had the pleasure of working on is Robotics Process Automation. This business-technology collaboration pushes existing boundaries to automate human work and uplift the skillsets of employees in GIC, empowering them with the ability to train robots themselves.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion is a top priority at GIC. As a woman in technology, I have never felt disadvantaged here. In fact, my managers and colleagues have been incredibly supportive, always encouraging me to take on new opportunities, projects, or roles in the organisation.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

Ever since joining GIC, I have had the amazing opportunity to develop and refine a wide range of skills, from financial and business domain knowledge to technology skillsets such as Agile, IT security, project governance, and DevOps. By diversifying my skillset beyond my expertise, I am better equipped to tackle the diverse challenges I face in my role.

I have also been blessed to work alongside some utterly amazing colleagues who have become role models to me. They are always willing to share their experiences and insights, which has helped me grow both as a technologist and as a person. Whether it is a success story, or a lesson learnt, I have benefitted so much from their guidance and mentorship.
