Technology Group

Larry

Larry is a Director of Technology Group at GIC where his vision is to build a truly agile team that delivers value to the business at high velocity. Based in the Singapore office, he takes pride in attracting and retaining diverse and ambitious people who understand technology trends, who can work well together, and can respectfully challenge each other to achieve the best outcomes for GIC.

Outside of work, Larry enjoys going to the gym, hiking, and travelling. He also likes exploring Singapore’s food offerings with his friends.

Why did you decide to join GIC?

I had previously worked for a sell-side firm and GIC has always had a fantastic reputation as a premier client. I was excited to be offered a position at GIC as it is one that has purpose.

GIC’s ultimate clients are Singaporeans. They are everyday people you meet daily from all aspects of life. So the fact that I can come to work every day and try to provide long-term returns that is meaningful for Singaporeans is very important to me.

What does your typical workday look like?

I communicate with my team daily and help them with problems that they are experiencing. It is my responsibility to ensure that they can be as productive as possible to deliver value to the business. I have a job to do, and I want to make sure that I am maximising my team’s productivity.

What do you like most about working here?

I had high expectations when I joined GIC, and I can honestly say that they have been easily exceeded. I am fortunate because I am part of a strong team that is collaborative and welcoming. At the Technology Group, we are focused on GIC’s long-term strategy and truly believe that technology will play an important role in the future.

What motivates me to come to work every day is the desire to build a strong organisation. I want to deliver great technology and I also enjoy problem-solving. I’m not the type of person who sits back and takes things one problem at a time. I enjoy multitasking and dealing with multiple stakeholders. As a problem solver, I find the work at GIC to be very exciting, invigorating, and dynamic.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

We have a talented and empowered team, not one that just does what I tell them to do. I’m looking for a team that is willing to challenge but in a respectful manner. I believe that if we have a team that is willing to be open and transparent, as well as challenge each other when necessary, we will be able to deliver better value to our stakeholders.

What you should know before joining GIC

GIC is looking for people who are up to date on the latest technological trends, and want to be part of a team that is willing to challenge each other while working together. I want to be in a team surrounded by people who are smarter than me and from whom I can learn new things regularly. At the end of the day, it ia all about adding value to our business while aligning with GIC’s vision and purpose.
