Ilya

Ilya is Deputy Head of Credit Research and Strategy in the Fixed Income and Multi Asset department. Based in the New York office, his responsibilities include identifying promising investment opportunities across the economic cycle, managing risk to safeguard our Client’s capital, and contributing to the development of a world-class global credit research team. 

Outside of work, Ilya’s top priority is his family. He is a devoted dad who loves nothing more than getting involved in his children’s school and sports activities. It is a fantastic way for him to spend quality time with his loved ones and stay connected with the community. When he is not busy with family commitments, he is dedicated to his personal goals, which include daily exercise and reading at least two books every month. He believes that being an “integrator” is the key to balancing his personal aspirations with his work objectives.  

Why did you decide to join GIC?

One of my former colleagues joined GIC and spoke very highly of the organisation and its people. At the time, I had just finished an executive MBA programme and was on the lookout for a job that would allow me to apply my new skills and network. GIC presented the challenges and opportunities that I was looking for in my career. It is quite rare to be afforded the opportunity to work with a global team of incredibly talented and motivated investment professionals. 

What does your typical workday look like?

My day kicks off with an energising run or bike ride, followed by a quick news update to stay in the loop. As an investment professional, I keep myself updated on the companies I cover by sifting through tons of data and timely headlines from global news media channels. After that, I dive into my emails, catch up on the latest market developments, review portfolio performance, and connect with my colleagues, portfolio managers, and management. 

As the day progresses, I immerse myself in company analysis and research reports, which keep me on my toes until the end of the day. To keep my mind sharp, I take a few minutes to meditate and recharge. Once I wrap up my workday, I switch gears and spend quality time with my three school-going kids, take my furry friend for a walk with my wife, or unwind with some of my favourite television shows.

What do you like most about working here?

The people at GIC are the reason I love working here. I have had the pleasure of working alongside some of the most talented, hardworking, and motivated individuals I have ever come across. When I first joined GIC, I was amazed by the organisation’s extensive presence across various financial markets worldwide. This gives us a significant advantage in making long-term plans and having a substantial impact. 

Moreover, I appreciate GIC’s conscious effort to prioritise diversity, equity, and inclusion in our hiring and development processes. This has created a more open, diverse, and dynamic work environment, which has positively influenced key decisions. 

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

Through interactions with highly experienced individuals both within and outside the organisation, I am constantly learning a great deal about the financial markets. Additionally, I have developed better time and energy management skills. My career has progressed positively, and I have been given opportunities to refine my people management abilities. 

Since joining GIC, I have been fortunate to have several mentors who have guided me in understanding the company culture and provided invaluable advice. I also have several mentees, which has been a rewarding experience and has helped me stay attuned to the organisation’s pulse.
