Enrique

Assistant Vice President

Human Resource & Organization Department

Enrique

Enrique is a valued member of the Human Resources & Organization Department at GIC’s New York Office, where he serves as an Assistant Vice President. Since joining the team in 2018, he has played an integral role in overseeing all payroll and benefits functions for the Americas, including the New York, San Francisco, and Sao Paulo Offices.

In his free time, Enrique enjoys reading, exercising, and spending quality time with his family. He especially loves grilling during the warmer seasons, and his passion for cooking is matched only by his dedication to his work at GIC.

Why did you decide to join GIC?

During my interview with the Head of Human Resources for the Americas, I learned that there are exciting challenges ahead and that I would be joining a company with a great culture and talented individuals. The prospect of a challenging road ahead piqued my interest, as I thrive on overcoming obstacles. Additionally, the opportunity to work alongside supportive colleagues who will help me on my journey is a valuable aspect of this role.

What does your typical workday look like?

Every day is unique for me, and I start my day early at 5am. If time permits, I enjoy squeezing in a run or workout before getting ready for work. My daily tasks are varied and include answering employee questions, paying vendor invoices, processing payroll, attending meetings, and reviewing staff benefits. I prioritize data integrity by conducting audits and participating in audits conducted by external and internal vendors on our data.

In addition to my daily responsibilities, I collaborate with other departments to improve our processes and streamline whenever possible. I believe in working together to achieve common goals and strive to create a positive and productive work environment.

What do you like most about working here?

I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such wonderful people at GIC. I genuinely enjoy the camaraderie and sense of community among my colleagues. We often take the time to connect over coffee, discussing not only work-related matters but also our personal lives and ideas.

Moreover, my colleagues have generously shared their knowledge and expertise with me, lending books to enhance my understanding of the market and economics. The culture of collaboration and willingness to help one another is truly magical and makes me proud to be a part of this organisation.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

I consider myself fortunate to have attended many of my colleagues’ learning and development classes or talks, which have significantly contributed to my career development. For instance, a public speaking class helped me to articulate myself better and become more confident in my communication skills. Additionally, a class on understanding different communication styles taught me that not everyone operates the same way, and knowing your audience can facilitate conversations with peers.

I am grateful for the opportunities to learn and grow within GIC, and I appreciate the support and encouragement of my colleagues. Their willingness to share their knowledge and expertise has been invaluable to me, and I look forward to continuing to learn from them.

What you should know before joining GIC

To succeed in GIC’s fast paced and ever-changing work environment, it is essential to practice prudence and agility. Collaboration with others is also crucial, as it allows you to work across groups and gain a better understanding of how the organisation operates.

I encourage you to aim for excellence in your daily activities, both inside and outside of work. This mindset will help you to continuously improve and grow both personally and professionally. Remember that every task, no matter how trivial, can contribute to the success of the organisation. We work together to achieve our goals and make a positive impact on the world around us.
