Randy is a Data Engineer in the Data Engineering & Analytics team within the Data Strategy Group. In his role, he leads a team of data engineers, driving initiatives to enhance how data is managed and utilised across the organisation through enterprise data platforms.
Outside of work, Randy enjoys spending quality time with his family and watching his nine-month-old child explore and learn about the world. He finds great joy in witnessing these moments of discovery and growth during this special stage of life.
Why did you decide to join GIC?
Prior to joining GIC, I saw it as a workplace with a greater mission, dedicated to making a positive impact for the nation. I knew I wanted my next workplace to foster stronger camaraderie. When the opportunity at GIC arose, I decided to learn more about the role. The thorough interview process gave me a deeper understanding of the position, and I really appreciated the effort that went into the hiring process. This ultimately sparked my interest in joining the organisation.

What does your typical workday look like?
My typical workday begins with a cup of coffee, and I occasionally visit our well-stocked pantry. Throughout the day, I engage in various activities, such as learning about new use cases, sharing available solutions, and brainstorming ideas with the team. I also make it a point to stay updated on the progress of ongoing initiatives. Additionally, I prioritise catching up with team members to identify areas where I can offer support.
What do you like most about working here?
What I enjoy most about working here is the strong camaraderie among the team. There’s genuine support, which makes collaboration enjoyable. I also appreciate that everyone is open to sharing their knowledge and working together, creating a positive and productive environment. This combination not only enhances our work but also makes it a fulfilling experience.
How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?
I would describe my learning and development at GIC as abundant. Opportunities for growth are available in both structured and informal settings. In structured settings, there are curated training courses on a variety of topics, from business skills to personal well-being. In informal settings, a strong culture of knowledge sharing encourages the exchange of ideas and experiences among colleagues. This mix creates a rich learning environment.
What skills or knowledge have you developed while working at GIC?
While working at GIC, I have developed my people management skills. It is an ongoing learning journey, where I constantly gain insights from my team members, peers, and managers on how to improve in this area. This continuous process has greatly contributed to my professional growth.
What are some highlights in your career thus far?
One specific project I worked on during my time at GIC is the implementation of a solution that enables teams to create data services on our enterprise data platform in a self-service, yet consistent and governed manner. This initiative empowers teams while ensuring compliance with enterprise standards.
