Emma

Emma is an Analyst in the Legal and Compliance Department, where she covers regulatory compliance. Together with her team, she assesses the regulatory obligations related to GIC’s investments and business activities, advising on a wide range of topics such as disclosure requirements and exchanging trading rules. Given GIC’s global presence, her team navigates a vast array of regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

Outside of work, Emma stays active and maintains a balanced lifestyle through dancing, regular gym workouts and yoga. These activities help her maintain fitness and provide a sense of mental clarity which she finds essential for both her personal and professional life. They also remind her of the importance of discipline and resilience—qualities she strives to bring to her role at GIC.

Why did you decide to join GIC?

I was drawn by the prospect of working in an organisation which has a global impact and a challenging yet rewarding work environment. The company’s emphasis on integrity and long-term value creation aligns with my own professional values. When I found out about the opening for a graduate role that matched my skills and interests, I knew I had to apply.

What does your typical workday look like?

A typical workday is dynamic and fulfilling. My day usually starts with reviewing regulatory updates that could impact on our operations, followed by analysing various transactions and business activities to ensure compliance. Since my team also provides advice on a wide range of regulations, the nature of queries we receive varies daily.

We have a very collaborative culture, often engaging in discussions to debate our ongoing work. I really enjoy that no two days are the same and there is always a new challenge that pushes me to think critically.

What do you like most about working here?

As a compliance analyst, I appreciate GIC’s commitment to integrity and excellence.  The collaborative environment encourages innovative thinking and allows me to learn from some of the brightest minds in the industry. Junior members of the team are encouraged to speak up and lead projects whenever possible, which I find very motivating. .

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

I have found that GIC invests significantly in programmes to supplement on-the-job learning. As part of the GIC Professionals Programme (GPP), we participated in a comprehensive 5-week boot camp designed to kickstart our journey at GIC. These training sessions were insightful and provided us, as fresh graduates, with valuable context regarding the work and expectations at GIC.

The GPP programme also includes rotations through different departments, enhancing our institutional knowledge and adaptability. Beyond that, GIC emphasises continuous learning and development by offering a variety of training programmes to support continuous growth.

What you should know before joining GIC

My advice to anyone looking to join GIC is to come with an open mind and a willingness to learn. GIC is a place where innovation meets tradition, so being adaptable and proactive will serve you well. Stay curious and take the initiative in expanding your knowledge, as the industry is constantly evolving.
