Ye Ju is an Associate in the Investment Services Public Markets (ISPM) department, where she works with her team to rebalance the total GIC portfolio in accordance with GIC’s unique risk profile. As a member of the ISPM department, she collaborates with multiple stakeholders across departments to generate and deliver operational alpha.

Why did you decide to join GIC?
Across my internships in different financial institutions, there was a high regard held for GIC. I learned that the firm’s values were closely aligned with mine and was struck by its role in enhancing our nation’s wealth. Through outreach programmes and by speaking to former interns and senior leaders, I became confident that this was a place I could apply the skills I had acquired in university and continue to learn among the top minds in the industry.
What does your typical workday look like?
I kickstart my day by grabbing a light breakfast at our in-house café with my teammates. With our coffee mugs in hand, I return to my desk and start responding to emails, organising my work for the day, and deep diving into different tasks. Every day looks a little different for me – from engaging my teammates and stakeholders, to optimising existing work processes, to rebalancing the portfolio exposures as the month draws to a close. Amidst these, I make sure to clock in a lunchtime workout every now and then to keep myself refreshed for the rest of the day.
What do you like most about working here?
I thoroughly enjoy the culture of advocating for inclusivity and excellence in GIC. The supportive and can-do attitude that people possess here allow us to tap on each other’s strengths and collectively face challenges head-on. The ability to engage in thoughtful discussions regardless of seniority and the drive to improve for our common purpose of serving the Singaporean people is the core reason I enjoy working in GIC.
How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?
GIC believes in life-long learning and ensures that everyone continues to upskill and be the best version of themselves. During the Graduate Professionals Programme (GPP), we underwent rigorous training to ensure that we were equipped with the necessary skills to integrate into our new roles seamlessly. Beyond the technical skills, one of my fondest memories from the GPP was brainstorming with my fellow peers on project ideas and hunting for the best lunch spots near the office. The friendships I made during the programme have enabled me to have a deeper appreciation for the organisation as I learn more about my peers’ experiences. Additionally, the rotations through the different departments have equipped me with a better understanding of how departments collaborate to achieve the long-term goals of GIC.
