Zhihui

Vice President

Economics & Investment Strategy

Zhihui

Zhihui is a Vice President in the Economics & Investment Strategy (EIS) Department. She works in the Total Portfolio Policy & Allocation team which manages GIC’s long-term capital allocation. Her team seeks to improve the risk-reward of the GIC portfolio by integrating top-down market views with bottom-up strategy insights. Across the spectrum of assets, Zhihui focuses on fixed income, private credit, and cross-asset strategies.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, such as taking her two-year-old outdoors. Among her favourite ways to unwind are exploring new places and taking long hikes in nature.

Why did you decide to join GIC?

I came across an opportunity with the asset allocation team in EIS while pursuing my studies in the US. My knowledge of GIC and asset management was limited then. Through the recruitment process, GIC’s unique mission and culture of nurturing its people stood out, and I was excited to play a part in charting the portfolio’s investment strategy. Looking back, I am glad to have taken the plunge – it is a pleasure being part of a collegial team dedicated to honing their craft.

What do you like most about working here?

What surprised me was GIC’s flat hierarchy, with individuals given significant responsibilities from the initial stages of their careers. The breadth of work in EIS is also remarkable. As we look across the total portfolio, there is always something new to explore and work on. And more importantly, there is a sense of mission in shaping the portfolio to grow Singapore’s reserves.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

GIC empowers its people to grow. It is gratifying to work with colleagues across the organisation who have generously showed me the ropes. There are also opportunities to collaborate with best-in-class experts through the firm’s extensive network. For example, we have partnered external managers on a range of research topics, including private credit and multi-asset EM investing. These collaborations have provided valuable insights, allowing the team to stay at the forefront of industry developments.

What you should know before joining GIC

If you are looking for a dynamic environment to work alongside motivated peers, GIC is a great place to work. Each department may also differ in their culture and desired skillsets – keep an open mind, and do not be shy to reach out to find a good fit!
