Why did you decide to join GIC?

Before joining GIC, I saw the organisation as a highly reputable and globally recognised institutional investor, known for its long-term investment approach. Having spent most of my career on the sell-side, I was eager to broaden my expertise by moving to the buy-side, which would provide me with a more holistic view of the industry while allowing me to apply my existing skills. GIC stood out due to strong recommendations from trusted contacts and the unique opportunities it offered, which aligned well with my long-term career goals.

Looking back, I am confident I made the right decision in choosing GIC over other opportunities. I have been especially impressed by the organisation’s strategic focus on technology and its willingness to invest in new tools and platforms. The collaborative culture, openness to new ideas, and emphasis on continuous learning have all surpassed my expectations.

What does your typical workday look like?

My day usually begins with catching up on the latest tech and AI news, articles, and research during my commute. Once I arrive at the office, I check emails and messages from overseas colleagues to stay updated on ongoing projects, followed by a daily stand-up meeting. Most of my day is dedicated to system design, implementation, and testing. In addition to these core responsibilities, I participate in meetings with stakeholders and team members to discuss project requirements, progress, and potential challenges.

What do you like most about working here?

What I appreciate most about working at GIC is the collaborative culture, which encourages open communication and teamwork across different functions. I also value the opportunity to gain exposure to a wide range of business workflows and challenges, allowing me to apply technology to optimise processes and drive greater efficiency. This makes my work both engaging and rewarding.

I am motivated by the chance to solve meaningful challenges and contribute to impactful projects that drive GIC’s success. Knowing that my work supports important investment decisions and adds value to the business gives me a strong sense of purpose.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

At GIC, learning is a continuous journey. I gain new insights and skills every day through hands-on experience and exposure to diverse projects. The various learning and development initiatives offered by the GIC School have been instrumental in enhancing my professional growth and developing essential soft skills.

What skills or knowledge have you developed while working at GIC?

Before joining GIC, my expertise was primarily in equities. Since then, I have gained valuable insights into a broader range of products within public markets, expanding my understanding of the investment landscape. This exposure has not only strengthened my technical skill set but enabled me to deliver more impactful and relevant solutions that closely align with business objectives.

What are some highlights in your career thus far?

One of the key highlights of my career at GIC has been leading a major initiative to enhance the efficiency of the PEG business through the application of AI and machine learning. This project required close collaboration between business and technology teams to identify areas for improvement, develop tailored AI/ML solutions, and ensure seamless integration into existing processes.

What you should know before joining GIC

If you are passionate about developing high-impact, scalable solutions that drive investment decisions, GIC is an excellent place to build your career. I would encourage candidates to proactively learn about both technology and the business, as having a strong understanding of both is essential for success here.
