Why did you decide to join GIC?
Purpose. Singapore is a small country with little to no natural resources beyond its people. The reserves that generations of Singaporeans have built up over the last six decades, which GIC is a steward of, help secure our future. As a Singaporean, there is no greater honor than having the opportunity to contribute to this cause.
What does your typical workday look like?
My day starts early with my 85lbs alarm clock (also known as Bruno the Golden Retriever) waking me up at 6:30 a.m. sharp. After my morning walk, I spend what time I have with my kids before dropping them off at school.
Thereafter, the workday consists of a myriad of calls with counterparties, advisors and bankers interspersed with preparation of deal-related materials. Balancing work and family commitments is important to me, so I make it a point to leave the office by a certain time to spend time with my family. That is not to say that the workday ends there; our work can often be intense and it’s not uncommon for me to log back on after the 2-3 hours I carve out for the family.
What do you like most about working here?
People. GIC is truly a collaborative place made up of a collection of exceptional individuals united by the common goal of generating returns. The diversity of backgrounds and experiences across not just my team, but the broader GIC, spanning various strategies and regions, brings fresh perspectives to the table which drives the success of the team and organisation.
