Cheryl

Managing Director

Fixed Income & Multi Asset

Cheryl

Cheryl is a Credit Portfolio Manager in the Fixed Income & Multi Asset department. Based in the New York office, she is responsible for implementing investment strategies within the global corporate loan market.

Outside of work, she is a proud ice hockey mum of two children and dedicates her time taking them to practice sessions and cheering them on at tournaments. Her travel-loving family embarks on adventures as much as they can. Having reached her 10-year anniversary milestone with GIC, she was given the opportunity to recharge as part of GIC’s recharge programme and spent close to 3 weeks travelling in France with her family.

Why did you decide to join GIC?

I wanted a career with purpose, fulfillment, and growth. The GIC platform is a formidable one, and even though I was joining an overseas office, I knew that the exposure and access would be remarkable.

What does your typical workday look like?

I typically start my day reading the latest stories and updates via major news outlets and key financial news channels. After team meetings in the morning to discuss trading ideas, investments, and strategies, my focus for the day varies from analysing new loan transactions and reviewing portfolio construction to reading up on key macro themes, collaborating with the credit research team, preparing memos and presentations, and meeting with external counterparties. I also enjoy connecting with colleagues from my team and across different departments.

What do you like most about working here?

Change is very much part of GIC’s DNA, and we are very intentional on staying nimble and forward-looking. The ability to work in a team that is constantly evolving our strategy has been extremely rewarding.

GIC embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) and fully supported me when I spearheaded a new DE&I effort in the New York office. Working alongside our Women-in-GIC (WING) and Social Impact groups, we established a partnership between GIC Americas and Girls Who Invest, a non-profit organisation dedicated to increasing the number of women in portfolio management and executive leadership in the asset management industry. The New York office will be taking in two interns to start, and we look forward to growing this programme over time.

How would you describe the learning & development culture at GIC?

I enjoy the fact that I am constantly learning, either through GIC’s vast network of resources, or from our internal experts and colleagues. Our continuous learning culture is critical to our success and gives us an edge as long-term global investors.

What you should know before joining GIC
